2. This helps to protect you because your e-mail address will no longer be showing on the website. This protects you (in case you're wondering) from E-mail Bots that search forums like this for email addresses, then composes a large list to be sold to marketers (SPAM mailers). We guarantee that your information is safe with us. In fact, you are not even required to provide an e-mail address.
3. Last, because the next time you return to our site, you don't have to fill out any information again when you post to the forum (assuming you check that box when you log in!)
